    An opportunity for New Grad OT's to meet and share their experiences in a supportive space. These sessions will be facilitated by our Clinical Education Lead & Mentor, Nerida Polkinghorne, an OT with extensive experience across various clinical practice areas & leaderhsip roles.

    3rd Wednesday of every month

    4pm-5pm

    An opportunity for New Grad OT's to meet and share their experiences in a supportive space. These sessions will be facilitated by Inclusive OT Director, Angie Contreras who has extensive clinical experience in home mods across multiple funding bodies.

    An opportunity for New Grad OT's to meet and share their experiences in a supportive space. These sessions will be facilitated by our Clinical Education Lead & Mentor, Nerida Polkinghorne, a Senior OT with extensive experience across various clinical practice areas & leaderhsip roles.

    TOPICS will be vary depending on the needs of the group each month, but our focus will remain in assisting new grads with navigating their first 6 months of practice.

    Due to the nature of the sessions, numbers are capped to ensure all attendees are offered the opportunity to share and contribute.

    CPD certificates of attendance will be issued up to the value of 1 CPD points per session, pending full attendance.

Training Event-Home Mods Practical Workshops for OT’s.

Inclusive OT and MPW Care are proud to present another CPD event for OT’s to learn more about home modifications prescription and the practical skills needed to measure and assess. Participants will have access to an experienced home mods OT and home mods installers/ product specialists to assist with technical skill practice on the day.

This special training event will feature practical workstations where participants can look, feel and touch a range of materials, rails, and home mods products as well as select practical activities, including : 

* Use of measuring tools in home mods
* Measuring, sketching & scripting for bathroom grabrails
* Measuring, sketching & scripting handrails for steps/stairs
* Measuring, sketching & scripting & design for ramps
* Gaining an overview of bidet assessment & prescription
* Professional presentation of home mods diagrams using standardised templates

Participants will gain valuable hands-on skills not available in textbooks, and be able to use their clinical reasoning to collaborate with carpenters and plumbers. Product specialists will also be on standby to showcase their products. 

Registration to this unique interactive event will include access to a recorded webinar on ‘Barriers to Home Mods’- an OT perspective’ with practical strategies on how OT’s can help their clients overcome them.

About the Presenters/ Hosts:

Angie Contreras (INCLUSIVE OT DIRECTOR) - is a registered occupational therapist with over 20 years clinical experience working with people with disabilities in community and rehab-based settings. She specialises in complex home modifications and assistive technology assessments, with a special interest in accessible design for people living with neurological conditions, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and dementia. She has vast experience working under a joint OT/Builder assessment model to deliver best practice solutions to her clients facing challenging and complex environmental barriers at home. Angie has also worked as a sessional academic & associate lecturer at the University of Sydney since 2015 and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of her demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning and the student experience of adult learners.

MWP Care (formerly MWP Community Aid) - are a Sydney based home modifications provider that has provided a range of support services for over 50 years to assist aged residents on Sydney’s Northern Beaches and North Shore, who cannot manage alone, to remain in their own homes and be as independent as possible. They have a dedicated team of qualified tradespersons and builders who work closely with OT's who refer clients for aged and disability specific home modifications.

OTDraw Essentials.

Join us for our most highly requested series of CAD Labs. These interactive workshops are held at our Sydney HQ , designed to not only help you familiarise yourself with the OTDraw software, but to be able to use the diagrams you create to present professional drawings for the purpose of communicating clearly with builders, home modifications providers, clients and funding bodies.

OTDraw is the ultimate drawing program for OT’s, designed by OT’s to allow a simple way to draw to scale with ease. This 3 -hour workshop is ideal for Beginners and will cover OTDraw essentials, including:-

  • Bathroom grab rails

  • Handrails for steps & stairs

  • Ramps

  • Bathroom floor plans & elevations

Participants will learn how to produce each of the above diagrams, and present them with the corresponding scopes of work using a structured template. Participants can access a temporary OTDraw license when they register to this workshop, but will need to bring their own laptops on the day.

Please note that OTDraw is not compatible with MAC. This workshop is designed for OT’s and also suitable for OT students.

Free - MWP Care Home Mods Workshop & Tradeshow for OT’s.

Inclusive OT and MPW Care are proud to present a full-day event for OT’s to learn more about home modifications prescription and industry products.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of the 3 hour workshop, participants will be able to;

  1. understand the considerations for prescribing bathroom grabrails and handrails for steps and stairs.

  2. prepare simple home modifications diagrams with accurate written technical specifications.

What will be covered:

  • Considerations for prescription of grabrails, rail placements and measurements.

  • Considerations for prescription of handrails, rail placements and measurements.

  • Understanding the role of the OT and the role of the Builder

  • Understanding of how the Australian Standards (AS1428.1-2021) apply to minor mods prescription

  • How to write technical specifications when recommending simple bathroom rails beside the toilet, inside the shower or within the bath.

  • How to write technical specifications when recommending handrails along external steps, internal steps, internal stairs  and threshold steps.

  • Case study examples.
